Watson Wins Fighting Scot Invite, Men Finish Fourth

With a 3-under 68 on Sunday, Connor Watson (Macomb, Illinois) won the Fighting Scot Fall Invite as the Monmouth College men's team finished in fourth place. The women finished in 10th place in the 2-day event at Gibson Woods in Monmouth.

Watson carded an even-par 71 on Saturday and was in fourth place after the first round. He had five birdies on Sunday to offset a pair of bogies and Watson won the event by one stroke. Watson carded a 33 on the front nine on Sunday and his round of 68 is the 3rd-best by a Monmouth golfer at Gibson Woods. His two-round score of 139 is second only to Norm Lydiard's school record 138 at the 1975 MCAC Tournament. Lydiard also holds Monmouth's one round record at Gibson Woods with a 64 in 1975.

"The men had a really nice weekend with the individual title and they were tied for first after the first round," said coach Cory Bizarri. "Overall this was a very nice showing for our team."

Watson''s 71 on Saturday helped to put the Scots in a first place tie as a team. Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) was 1-over on Saturday with a 72 and he shot an 81 on Sunday to finish in 19th place at +11. Cole Reavis (Buena Vista, Colorado) shot a 74 on Saturday and came back with a 77 on Sunday to pass Foster and finish 15th at +9. Thomas Henson (Geneseo, Illinois) rounded out the "A" team with a 79-82 to finish +19 in 38th place.

The "A" team ended up in fifth place overall at +36. They ended up 13 shots behind Waldorf, who won by two over Augustana.

Playing on the "B" team, Collin Heslin (Nashville, Tennessee) finished in 34th place with an 80-80-160 (+18). Davis Rogers (Atlanta, Illinois) finished 48th with an 89-80-169 (+27) and CJ Push (Abingdon, Illinois) shot 90-88-178 (+36) Jacob Miller (West Point, New York) shot 100-90-190 (+48) to finish in 58th place, tied with Zackery Manley (Lincoln, Illinois) with a 97-93-190 (+48).

Aiden Poor, (Pittsfield, Illinois) new to the Monmouth team this week, shot a 90-90-180 (+38) to finish 55th and Jase Whiteman (Andalusia, Illinois) shot an 89 on Saturday but did not play on Sunday.
