Swim Teams Both Take 2nd at Mid-Season Meet

MONMOUTH, ILL. The Monmouth College swim teams both finished second at the Mid-Season Meet in Beloit this weekend. The women's team scored 663 points as Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) won four individual events over the two days. The men's team scored 474 points as Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) and Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) both won events.

"This was a fantastic weekend for us," said head coach Jake Dacus. "We always love coming up to Beloit for the Mid-Season invite and from the start of things Friday it was clear we were going to have a good meet. We just kept the momentum rolling all weekend and every single race seemed to have a season-best or new PR for the Scots. It was a testament to the incredible work our team has put in so far this season and it was great to see them reap the rewards from the last few months of practice."

WOMEN

Warren picked up wins in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

In the 100 breaststroke, Warren won by more than two seconds with a time of 1:08.71 with teammate Nora Collins (Hopedale, Illinois) in third at 1:11.89 and Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) in fourth at 1:14.15. She won the 200 breaststroke by seven seconds with a time of 2:30.08. Collins took third at 2:39.85 and Smith in fifth at 2:40.49.

Warren won the 200 freestyle in 2:04.48 with Addie Zamora (Arma, Kansas) in third at 2:06.01 and Smith in sixth at 2:07.97. Warren won the 200 IM in 2:17.64 with Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) in sixth in 2:28.47.

Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.97, winning by nearly three seconds. In the 100 backstroke, Tate was third with a time of 1:02.80. She also took fifth in the 100 free with a time of 57.86. Tate was seventh in the 50 free in 26.35 with Collins right behind her in 26.56. .

Caitlin Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) took second in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:27.54 with Smith in fourth at 5:42.26. She was also second in the 400 IM in 4:54.35. Stewart took third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.28 and she was third in the 1650 freestyle in 19:20.56

Smith added a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:42.26.

The Monmouth team of Tate, Stewart, Warren and Fitch won the 400 yard medley relay in 4:14.81 while the team of Collins, Smith, Zamora and Claire LaBadie (Griffith, Indiana) took fifth in 4:35.55.

Tate, Stewart, Warren and LaBadie won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.31 with Fitch, Zamora, Collins and Smith in fifth at 2:02.58.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Collins, Fitch, Smith and Tate took third in 1:45.93 with Warren, Stewart, Zamora and LaBadie in fourth at 1:46.27.

The 400 freestyle relay of Stewart, Warren, Collins and Tate took second in 3:50.84 while the team of Smith, Zamora, Fitch and LaBadie took sixth in 3:57.56.

MEN

McLarty won the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.92 seconds. Bucket Youvan (Rochester, Indiana) took fourth in the event with a time of 50.13.

McLarty took second in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.72 and he was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.93. He was third in the 50 free in 22.27 seconds with Youvan in fifth at 22.43.

Bridgford won the 100 backstroke in 2:00.27 with Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) in fourth in 2:07.33. He was third in the 200 IM in 2:06.17 with Foster in fifth at 2:11.09, Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) in sixth at 2:16.35 and Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) in seventh at 2:17.26

Bridgford was second in the 400 IM in 4:26.03 with Coyne in fifth at 4:48.77. Youvan took fourth in the 100 backstroke in 58.20 seconds with Bridgford right behind him in 58.23 and Foster in sixth at 1:00.75.

Coyne took second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.25 with Main in third at 2:30.68. Coyne was also second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.10 and Main took fourth in 1:06.55

The men's top relay team was the 200 medley team of Bridgford, McLarty, Coyne and Youvan as they took second in 1:41.37. The 400 freestyle relay team of Youvan, Foster, Main and McLarty also took second with a time of 3:23.01

The 400 medley relay team of Foster, Coyne, McLarty and Youvan took third in 3:47.02. The 200 yard freestyle relay of McLarty, Foster, Main and Youvan took third in 1:31.31.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Warren won six events overall, four individual and two relays ... Tate won three events on the weekend, one individual and two relays ... Illinois Wesleyan won the women's event, 95 points ahead of the Scots ... Illinois College won the men's event, 466 points ahead of Monmouth ... Ripon and Beloit were also at the event ... The Scots are now off until the swim against both Coe and Augustana in Rock Island on Jan. 10 ... The next home meet is Jan. 17 against North Central.
