Sandburg Volleyball Hosts Region 4 Quarterfinal Wednesday vs. Highland

After winning the Arrowhead Conference championship for the second year in a row, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team now turns its eyes to a bigger prize.

The Chargers (25-14) earned the No. 6 seed in this week’s Region 4 Division II District B tournament and will host a quarterfinal match against 11th-seeded Highland at 6 p.m. Wednesday in John Lewis Gym. The contest will be streamed on the Carl Sandburg College YouTube channel.

Sandburg swept both meetings with the Cougars (15-19) during the regular season. The Chargers won 25-9, 25-23, 25-19 at home Aug. 29 and 25-15, 27-25, 25-16 on Sept. 28 in Freeport.

Wednesday’s winner advances to the semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Madison against the winner of No. 3 Rock Valley and No. 14 South Suburban. The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, also at Madison. Sandburg has reached the title match in seven consecutive seasons.

The champion qualifies for the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, which takes place Nov. 15-18 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Chargers are looking to reach nationals for the fourth time in school history (2017, 2018, spring 2021).
