Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement after voting in favor of a resolution before the U.S. House of Representatives condemning the political violence against Charlie Kirk and all forms of political violence.
“Even though I disagreed with Charlie on many things, especially his rhetoric about my LGBTQ brothers and sisters, I absolutely condemn the attack that took his life,” said Congressman Sorensen. “At every turn, we must stand united against political violence, full stop.”
Congressman Sorensen also helped introduce a different resolution that makes clear that violence and threats have no place in American politics. It says that all officials – regardless of party or ideology – deserve safety, dignity, and respect. It continues by affirming that leaders and media alike must reject rhetoric that dehumanizes opponents and instead foster civil discourse.
