BELOIT, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire football team picked up a 35-24 conference victory at Beloit on Saturday afternoon.
Knox used a 16-play, 74 yard drive capped off by a 3-yard touchdown run by Sam Walker to score midway through the first quarter. A good extra point by Preston Lade gave the Prairie Fire an early 7-0 lead.
Kaile Williams led Knox down the field again in the second quarter and ran the ball in himself to take a 14-0 into halftime.
The Buccaneers scored midway through the third quarter to cut the Prairie Fire lead to one possession.
The fourth quarter saw a flurry of action, started by another TD run by Williams.
Beloit answered with a score, but Williams added two more scores to give Knox a 34-13 lead.
The Buccaneers added two more touchdowns in the final two minutes, but came up short of the comeback.
Williams completed 12-of-16 passes for 116 yards. He rushed for 64 yards and four touchdowns. Walker rushed for 84 yards and a score. Tyler Elfering hauled in six catches for 72 yards.
Ean Rau and Jacob Etienne led the Prairie Fire with six tackles apiece. Rau, Jonathan Sarich, and Anthony Garcia each had a tackle for a loss. Sarich picked up a sack and Isaac Mora reeled in an interception.
"We played well for most of the game," said head coach Aaron Willits. "Our defense had some lapses in the second half, but fortunately most of them were late enough in the game to not matter."
Knox will return to action as they host Grinnell on October 15.
