Boys Soccer: Monmouth-Roseville 1, Roanoke-Benson/Eureka 0

Monmouth-Roseville striker Oscar Amador scored on the Titans’ first shot of the game, and that was enough for a 1-0 victory over the host Roanoke-Benson/Eureka Rockets Monday afternoon.

In the game’s seventh minute, M-R center back Sang Lian beat a pair of Rocket defenders off the dribble, then slipped a pass ahead to Amador, who scored his third goal of the season. It was Lian’s fifth assist, one shy of the team lead.

In posting his second clean sheet of the season, M-R goalie Sailas Cung saved four shots, and he was also strong off his line and in the air to keep a couple other R-B/E chances at bay.

M-R held a 13-11 edge in shots, while the Rockets held a 4-2 advantage in corners.

Now 6-13-2 on the year, M-R will host Streator Thursday on the Titans’ Senior Night. It will be their regular season finale. One of the program’s first outstanding players, Audelio “Chino” Ayala, will be honored between the JV game, which starts at 5 p.m., and the varsity game, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Darkness caused Monday’s JV matchup between M-R and R-B/E to be cut short before it was a regulation game.
