The Cambridge Natural History Museum is turning one—and you're invited to help celebrate! On Saturday, August 9th, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the museum will host a One-Year Anniversary Open House at 132 W. Center Street, Cambridge, IL, complete with guided tours, family-friendly activities, and light refreshments.
The museum’s founder and curator, 10-year-old Anderson Taylor, will lead guided tours at 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM, sharing the story of how his dream became a reality and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the collection's growth—from one humble display case to now eleven full exhibits of fossils, minerals, and natural artifacts.
“When we opened last year, I had just one display case of fossils,” says Anderson. “Since then, donations have poured in from all over the country—some even from around the world. It’s been amazing to see how much people care about preserving these treasures and sharing them with others.” - Anderson Taylor
Visitors will also hear about future plans for the museum, including the addition of a gift shop, expanded exhibit space, and a short-term rental apartment upstairs to provide income and lodging for out-of-town guests.
The anniversary also marks the official launch of a $50,000 fundraising campaign to help purchase and renovate the building the museum currently occupies—securing its future as a permanent fixture in the Cambridge community. Without ownership, the museum’s future remains uncertain.
“Many of the items in the museum were lovingly collected over a lifetime,” Anderson explains. “They were donated by families in honor of loved ones who passed away. It’s an incredible honor to care for these collections, and I want to make sure they’re here to inspire people for generations to come.” - Anderson Taylor
