Silver Streaks freshman Alexandre Kamesa headed home a cross from sophomore Franklin Hilligoss in the 10th minute of the first half, giving Galesburg all the offense it would need in a 2-0 victory over Monmouth-Roseville Saturday afternoon in boys soccer action.
Hilligoss’s assist came in from the right side and Kamesa headed it back across the goal and past M-R goalie Jhonatan Hernandez for the only tally of the first half.
The hosts added an insurance goal with 22:52 left in the game when GHS sophomore Michi Flores booted a punt with a strong wind behind him. It bounced a few yards the penalty box and over the head of Hernandez, who got a glove on the ball but couldn’t prevent it from going in behind him.
The Streaks had an 11-5 edge in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners.
Now 5-13-2 on the year, the Titans return to action at Roanoke-Benson/Eureka on Monday.
In the JV game, M-R’s Jose Tomas-Cortez netted a hat trick as the Titans posted a 5-0 victory. Dabens Saint-Martin and Juan Ayala added goals, Richard Awator had two assists and Raul Carrillo had one. The JV improved to 8-6-4.
