MACOMB, Ill. – Salvador Mora Ruiz scored late in both halves to lift Monmouth-Roseville to a 3-1 victory at Macomb on Wednesday afternoon.
The senior’s goal with 2:41 left in the first half gave the Titans a 2-0 lead. At the edge of the penalty box, he worked against two Bomber defenders to control a high ball, bringing it onto his right foot and knocking a shot past goalie Maksim Daytner. The Titans’ first goal came on a penalty kick by Sang Lian with 17:55 to play in the first half.
The Bombers made things interesting in the second half when Harold Greene’s long shot from the right sideline surprised M-R goalie Sailas Cung and sailed inside the far post. That came at the 25:37 mark, and it remained a tight one-goal battle until Mora Ruiz’s blast from point-blank range with 8:45 to play. Cee Sarcomo nearly scored seconds before, but Daytner blocked the shot to his left. Sebastian Aguilera-Perez corralled the loose ball and knocked a cross back in front of the goal. Daytner couldn’t secure it, and Mora Ruiz pounced on the chance to seal the game.
While improving to 4-7-2 on the season, Monmouth-Roseville held a 30-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners.
The Titans return to action Thursday at Metamora.
