METAMORA, Ill. – Host Metamora had too much firepower for a short-handed Monmouth-Roseville squad, pulling away in the second half for a 6-0 victory in boys soccer action Thursday night.
Jacob Crotz got the Redbirds on the board in the game’s third minute, stealing a pass and beating M-R goalie Sailas Cung with a roller to the far post. Cung got one back for the Titans when he saved a penalty kick by Metamora’s Payton Porch, but the Redbirds held a 2-0 halftime lead thanks to a great solo effort by Porch.
Benji Rajtora’s goal off a long diagonal pass by Alex Buhr gave Metamora a 3-0 lead 10 minute after halftime, and the Redbirds cruised from there, adding goals on a free kick by Porch and on rebound shots by Cooper Weyant and Rajtora, the latter two scores coming in the game’s final seven minutes.
Metamora held a 25-5 edge in shots and took all of the game’s eight corner kicks.
Now 4-8-2 on the year, M-R will have another challenge Saturday when it hosts a talented Mendota squad. Kickoff of the varsity game is 11 a.m. at Pattee Fields.
M-R lost the JV game 4-0.
