4th edition of Sandburg Shootout to take place Jan. 4

High school basketball fans can ring in the first Saturday of 2025 with a full day of hoops as the Sandburg Shootout returns Jan. 4 on the college’s Galesburg campus.

The fourth edition of the event includes four small-school boys basketball contests starting at 1 p.m. Matchups for the 2025 Sandburg Shootout are:• 1 p.m. — United vs. Illini Central• 2:30 p.m. — Monmouth-Roseville vs. Olympia• 4 p.m. — Class 2A No. 10 West Hancock vs. Sherrard• 5:30 p.m. — West Central vs. Hartsburg-Emden

The day’s featured matchup pits Class 2A No. 8 West Hancock against Sherrard, which is receiving votes in the most recent Class 2A Associated Press poll. That game is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m.

“We’re excited to host this event once again and continue to grow it into a date that fans look forward to on their calendar," Sandburg men's basketball coach and shootout organizer Ryan Twaddle said. "We’ve had great feedback from the teams that have been part of the Sandburg Shootout in the past. It gives them a game on a college floor against an opponent they may not normally see. It should be a great day of basketball, and we’ve already had schools reach out to us about wanting to play in it for 2026."

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. All tickets are available at the door the day of the shootout, and admission is good for all four contests.
