Women's Basketball Won Season Opener

The Prairie Fire women's basketball team opened their season with a 76-45 win over Dominican on November 8.

Knox jumped out to a 15-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Stars worked back to just a 17-11 deficit at the end of the period.

Dominican scored first in the second quarter to pull within four points, but Knox quickly took control again as they soon found themselves up 31-16. The Stars battled back late in the first half and trailed 36-15 heading into halftime.

The Prairie Fire continued to pull away in the second half, maintaining a double digit lead throughout, to cruise to victory.

Sarina Dacio led Knox with 22 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long-range. Kristin Herndon added 17 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. Bri Arizmendi pulled down nine rebounds. Catessa Duran tallied seven points and six rebounds.

"Great way to start the season. I thought our players put together 4 quarters and fought for each other tonight," said head coach Kira Mowen. "I know they were excited to compete against someone other than ourselves. We achieved the goals we set out for to start the game and had numerous players step up and make plays. That will be something we rely on heavily this season! Proud of our effort tonight from everyone."
