By Nathan Baliva

Monmouth College volleyball player Melina Teunis (Grand Haven, Michigan) was named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Tuesday.

Teunis posted 11 blocks, eight digs and nine kills in two matches last week. The Scots played a pair of 5-setters on Saturday at the Illinois College Invitational, beating Kenyon and falling to Nebraska Wesleyan.

In the opening match against Kenyon, Teunis had six blocks, three kills and one dig. In the second match she posted six kills with seven digs and five more blocks while hitting .294.

Teunis is Monmouth's second Volleyball Performer of the Week after Alana Robertson (Mapleton, Illinois) won to start the season. The Scots play on Saturday against Luther and Augustana in Rock Island. The next home game is Oct. 9 against Central.
