Scots Pile Up Wins, PRs at Knox Open

The Monmouth College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Knox Open on Saturday, facing the hosts, Illinois College and Augustana.
MEN
Janius Taylor (Lakeland, Florida) won the 200m race in 22,16 with Da'Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) in second at 22.48 and Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) in third in 22.92. Those three also teamed up with Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) to win the 4x400m relay in 3:24.21.
At Friday's Drake Relays, the Spring Medley Relay team of Patterson, Outlaw, Newton and Patrick Curry (Chicago, Illinois) ran an impressive 3:30.47 to finish sixth overall, second in their heat. The 4x100m relay team of Patterson, Outlaw, Elijah Cherelus (Kissimmee, Florida) and Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois) ran 42.86. They finished seventh in their heat and 25th out of 38 teams.
Newton took second in the 1500m with a season best 4:07,59. Cherelus took second in the 100m race in 11.17.
Freshman Fernando Avila Rubio (Alpha, Illinois) took second in the 3000m steeplechase in a PR time of 10:26.34, nearly 40 seconds better than his previous time.
Logan Morse (Yates City, Illinois) was fourth in the 400m hurdles in a PR of 1:00.90 with Asa Stegall (Abingdon, Illinois) taking third in the 100m hurdles with a PR of 16.83.
Patrick Curry (Chicago Illinois) took fourth in the 400m race with a season-best time of 52.69. Xander Stoub (Palos Heights, Illinois) was second in the 5000m with a season-best time of 17:01.21
In the field events, Tashawn Ruffin (Bloomington, Illinois) won the triple jump with a new wind-legal PR of 14.25m, the eighth-best mark in school history. Johnny York (Elmwood, Illinois) was third in the long jump at 6.39 with Ruffin in fourth at 6.12m.
Luke Reavis (Buena Vista, Colorado) took third in the high jump with a PR of 1.70m and Jasmes Gustafson (Chicago, Illinois) took fourth at the same height. Matthew Bright (Macomb, Illinois) took fourth in the pole vault at 3.65m.
Colton Huston (Mount Pleasant, Iowa) won the javelin with a PR of 48.16m while Reavis took fourth with a PR of 42.98.
Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) took second in the discus at 42.84m with Gunner Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) in fourth at 41.12m. Anderson was also second in the hammer at 52.03m with Bryant in fourth at 47.54m.
Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) took second in the shot put at 14.33m with Anderson in fourth at 13.14m.
WOMEN
Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois), who finished ninth at the Drake Relays in discus on Friday, won the event on Saturday with a throw of 46.16m.Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was second at 38.85m,
Boley also won the shot put at 13.28m with Braun in second at 12.30m and Alayna Earle (Clinton, Illinois) in third with a PR of 11.61m.
Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) led a 1-4 sweep in the hammer with a throw of 52.16m, Boley was second at 51.62m while Earle took third with a PR of 46.38 and Braun finished fourth with a PR of 43.02m.
Makaiha Moore-Bell won the 200m race in 26.43 as Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) finished second in 26.61
Danielle Johnson (Annawan, Illinois) finished second in the 400m race in 1:07.74.0
Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) was second in the triple jump with a season best 10.10m and also finished third with a 3.05m PR in the pole vault.
Natalie Gonzalez (Galesburg, Illinois) took third in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:11.94 and she also took fourth in the 100m hurdles in 17.14 seconds,
The 4x400m relay team of Moore-Bell, Johnson, Rusk and Gonzalez won in 4:15.37.
NEXT UP:
The Scots have another home meet next weekend as they host the Midwest Invitational on Saturday with a start time TBA. Monmouth's seniors will be honored before the running events begin.
