Sandburg Women’s Golf Starts Season Saturday at Lake Bracken

GALESBURG — After finishing one stroke shy of winning the inaugural Region IV championship last year, the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team has its sights set on taking home the title in 2022.

The Chargers begin their fall season by hosting the Sandburg Invite at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake Bracken.

NOTABLE RETURNERS

Olivia Schwingle (Sterling, Ill./Sterling), sophomore

  • Finished fourth at Region IV Tournament and made All-Region IV team as a freshman

  • Chargers coach Gail Hannam: “We’re excited to have Olivia keep the momentum her game showed last spring and be our leader on and off the course.”

Anna Duden (Gifford, Ill./Armstrong), sophomore

  • Placed fifth at Region IV Tournament and made All-Region IV team as a freshman

  • Hannam: “We’re looking for more improvement in Anna’s game now that she has a year of college experience.”

NEWCOMER TO WATCH

Ellie Wasson (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls), freshman

  • Hannam: “Ellie was a state qualifier in high school and should provide a low score our team will need to be competitive.”

TOURNAMENT TO WATCH

Region IV Tournament, Oct. 3-4 at Heritage Oaks in Northbrook

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUR TEAM THIS SEASON?

Hannam: “I expect all six players to work hard and improve throughout the season. If that happens, we will be tough to beat in Region IV.”

THIS WILL BE A SUCCESSFUL SEASON IF ...

Hannam: “If our team shows growth on and off the course. I’m looking forward to adding our four freshmen to the roster and having a full team this year.”
