GALESBURG — Both Carl Sandburg College basketball teams will hit the road to kick off their respective Region IV tournaments this week.
WOMEN TO PLAY AT OAKTON The Chargers women’s team will face a familiar foe as it gets a rematch with Oakton at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a Division II District L quarterfinal. The teams played Saturday afternoon in Des Plaines, with the Owls coming away with a 61-58 victory.
Oakton (20-6) is the second seed in the tournament, while the Chargers (5-19) earned the No. 7 seed. Sandburg closed the regular season with three wins in its final five games.
MEN DRAW MCHENRY COUNTY The Sandburg men’s team is the No. 6 seed in the Division II District 4 tournament and will travel to face third-seeded McHenry County in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner advances to play at No. 2 Milwaukee Area, which earned a quarterfinal bye, in the semifinals on Sunday.
The Chargers (15-14) grabbed an 81-67 win at McHenry County (16-14) on Feb. 5. Matt Williams (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) and Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) each had a double-double in the victory for Sandburg, and Eric Price (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) came off the bench to score 19 points.
