Peoria physician elected president ofIllinois State Medical Society

Richard C. Anderson, M.D., FACS, is the new president of the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) following elections held during its recent annual meeting. Dr. Anderson’s term as president will run through April 2026.Dr. Anderson has been an active member of ISMS for 35 years. He is the immediate past president-elect, and has also served as secretary-treasurer, chair of the board, ISMS vice-president, as well as region and district trustee. He is actively involved in leadership roles with the Peoria Medical Society, the Illinois Surgical Society and as a member of the Midwest Surgical Society’s Editorial Committee. As part of the University of Illinois College of Medicine faculty since 2000, Dr. Anderson presently serves as the Chair and Norman Estes Professor of Surgery, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Department of Surgery. He has received multiple accolades including the University of Illinois-Peoria’s Faculty of the Year Award (2006, 2020), and the Raymond B. Allen Instructorship Golden Apple Award (2003, 2008, 2010, 2018).Dr. Anderson earned his medical degree at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, followed by his thoracic surgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He is double board-certified in surgery and thoracic surgery. |
