In June the Cielitos Summer Soccer Camp will be starting up for the first time at Lake Storey.
The camp is hosted by Diego Martinez who will “train the kids.” Brianna Organista is “helping with the organizing of the event.”
Martinez was inspired to create the camp because “I play soccer at Carl Sandburg College. I would see kids training when I was done with practice. They weren’t having fun. They were doing lots of running, but not practicing controlling the ball and playing together. With my experience I know that I can help the kids have fun.”

In addition to playing soccer at Carl Sandburg College Martinez has been “a trainer for two to three years.”
The purpose of the camp is to “give a chance to every kid to learn that soccer is more than a sport. You can build friendships. It’s fun. It’s a lifestyle.”
The camp is for “kids ages 8 to 14 who want to improve themselves, learn to be active, train, and have a good experience.”
For the camp kids will need “a water bottle, something to eat, and soccer cleats. They can order a shirt and shorts for the camp at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rPelJ5FwcG4252EWMToH0GIS4muE3G2y-Xw0aw61saY/edit?usp=drivesdk.”
“Whoever signs up gets a $10 gift certificate from Cielito’s Cafe.” added Organista.
The “first day of camp we will be getting to know each other and learning how to work as a team. On the second day we will learn skills, tricks, and how to control the ball. On the Third day we will practice control of the ball and learn advanced skills. On the fourth day of camp we will host a tournament.”
At the tournament there will be “prizes for the kids. There is a golden ball trophy and medals the kids can win.”
It is “$65 for four training days. The cost does not include the shirt and shorts. You can sign up for camp at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rPelJ5FwcG4252EWMToH0GIS4muE3G2y-Xw0aw61saY/edit?usp=drivesdk.”
The camp will be at “Lake Storey June 4th through the 7th. We will divide the kids up into the following age groups: ages 8 to 10 will have camp from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., ages 11 to 12 will have camp from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and ages 13 to 14 will have camp from 3 to 5 p.m.”
Martinez would like the Galesburg community to know “we are making this camp available for everyone. Even if a kid has never played soccer before they’ll be able to learn new skills and have fun. If you are free this summer, you can learn in a fun way how to play soccer. Skills soccer fun all in one. That’s what we stand for.”
