Folk Group Returning to the Area for the First Time Since Levitt Appearance

Audiences are in for a heartwarming evening of music and community as Sturtz, the Colorado-based folk group praised by NPR’s All Songs Considered as “a reassuring breath of fresh air that pulls me back to simpler times,” performs at Bishop Hill Creative Commons on Wednesday, November 12.

The evening begins with a potluck dinner and social hour at 6:00 p.m., followed by the concert at 7:00 p.m.The event is open to all ages and family-friendly, offering an intimate night of live music in this historic colony.

A $20–$30 suggested donation will be collected at the door, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the performers.

About Sturtz

Blending lush harmonies, acoustic textures, and a grounded warmth that feels both timeless and new, Sturtz creates music that feels like home. The quartet — Andrew Sturtz (vocals, guitar), Courtlyn Carpenter (cello, harmonies), Will Kuepper (bass, piano, harmonies), and Jim Herlihy (banjo, electric guitar, harmonies) — crafts songs that live at the intersection of folk, soul, and Americana.

With vocals that soar over the deep resonance of cello and bass, their sound evokes open skies, long drives, and slow mornings — an antidote to the noise of modern life. The band’s signature blend of serenity and sincerity has earned them a loyal following and widespread critical acclaim.

Sturtz recently released their second studio album, Hyacinth, in September 2024, a collection that deepens their musical identity while exploring themes of growth, gratitude, and change. Their live shows balance delicate musicianship with easy camaraderie — a testament to their genuine friendship and shared sense of purpose.

When they’re not performing, the members of Sturtz can often be found milling flour, gardening, roasting coffee, or honing their photography skills, living out the same spirit of craftsmanship and mindfulness that runs through their music.
