Get ready for a night of laughs, chaos, and community fun as Cambridge Community Theater returns to College Square Park on Friday, August 1st at 7 p.m. for its 6th annual summer production! This year’s performance marks a special milestone with the debut of a brand-new original comedy by local playwright Tom Akers, titled A Greek (sort of) Tragedy!
A spoof on the world of classic theater, this riotous play-within-a-play follows a student production by Rock Falls High School, written by senior Rachel Hansen. What starts as a tribute to Greek tragedy quickly unravels into full-blown theatrical mayhem. The director goes missing, props vanish, sets collapse, and a mysterious illness knocks out the cast—leaving only the frantic stage manager (played by Jack Brown) to somehow keep the show alive. With a neurotic playwright, bickering actors, and a ticking clock, disaster turns into comedy gold.
If you're a fan of farces like The Play That Goes Wrong, you won’t want to miss A Greek (sort of) Tragedy — an original production full of surprises and side-splitting moments.
Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted to help support future productions. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, gather your friends and family, and enjoy an evening of open-air theater and laughter under the stars.
