New Monmouth-Roseville soccer coach Sebastiao Neto got his high school coaching career off on the right foot with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Riverdale Rams Tuesday night at Pattee Fields.
Actually, it was the left foot of Sebas Aguilera-Perez that gave the host Titans a lead they’d never relinquish, as he connected from outside the penalty box on a far-post shot in the game’s second minute. Aguilera-Perez added another long-range shot in the first half to give M-R a 3-0 lead, but Riverdale edged closer on the final kick of the half on a rebound goal by Shane Johnson off a free kick.
M-R also scored in the second minute of the second half thanks to defender Francisco Tomas Francisco, who stepped in front of a Riverdale pass, dribbled 15 yards forward and drilled another long-range shot. Kevin Vazquez scored off a rebound two minutes later and Cee Sarcomo added a pair of second-half goals. Salvador Mora Ruiz had M-R’s other goal. Riverdale notched the game’s final tally off another free kick rebound with three minutes to play. Austin Duke had the goal.
M-R held a 43-6 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corners.
In the JV match, Vince Alvarez and Dabens St.-Martin scored for the Titans and goalkeeper Jonathan Hernandez helped preserve M-R’s win by saving a Riverdale penalty kick.
