Boys Soccer: Monmouth-Roseville 1, A-Town 1

For the second straight game, the Monmouth-Roseville soccer team played to a tie, as visiting A-Town drew even seconds before the halftime whistle. The 1-1 score stood throughout the second half, although both teams had shots at the game-winner.

The visitors had the best chance of the second half, but missed a penalty kick two minutes in. Bruntsh Bolese entered the game for M-R in the second half and got off three shots in a short span, including a close-range header that went just wide. A-Town did find the back of the net with five minutes to play, but the goal was negated by offsides.

In the first half, A-Town goalie Augie Courson was called for a foul in the box, and M-R sent up its own goalie, Isaac Garcia, to take the ensuing penalty kick. Garcia buried the shot for a 1-0 lead with 6:20 left in the half. With 15 seconds to play, the Tornadoes got the goal back, as a pass down the left side found Carter Stroot, who sped away from two Titan defenders and slotted a goal past Garcia to the near post.

A-Town outshout M-R 14-8, with Garcia making five saves, while Courson had two saves for the Tornadoes.

Now 3-1-2 on the season, M-R will travel to Limestone Thursday. A-Town is now 2-2-1.

In JV action, M-R’s Diego Barrera Ruiz headed in a cross from Sebastian Aguilera Perez with three minutes to play as the Titans won the 30-minute game 1-0.
