22-23 Knox Women's Basketball Season Preview

The Prairie Fire women's basketball team began their season on November 8 when they traveled to Dominican University.

Head Coach Kira Mowen led the team to a 12-13 record in her first season at the helm. At one point the team went on an eight game winning streak and finished tied for second in the Midwest Conference with a 10-6 league record.

The team brings back a core of four starters from last year, including first team all-Midwest Conference selection Catessa Duran. Saxon Alvarez, Kristin Herndon, Sophie Elstone, and Haylee Carpenter also started at least 10 games for Knox last season.

The Prairie Fire finished the 2021-22 regular season fourth in the conference in scoring (62.8 points per game) and third in defense (59.5 points allowed per game). Kristin Herndon's 1.7 blocks per game led the league and Saxon Alvarez was third in the MWC in assist to turnover ratio (1.2). Catessa Duran was the leading scorer for the Prairie Fire with 11.1 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game (3rd in MWC). She also finished fourth in the conference with 1.2 blocks per game and eighth with 1.8 steals per game. The team made their third MWC Tournament in the last four seasons.

Knox was picked in a tie for third in the Midwest Conference preseason poll and will look to make the conference tournament once again.
