Knox Women Beat Lawrence

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team picked up a huge 72- 44 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence on Tuesday night. It is the sixth straight win for Knox to move to 6-3 in league play.

The Vikings jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Prairie Fire finished the quarter on a 10-3 run to pull within one.

Knox then used an 11-2 run to take a commanding lead in the second quarter. By halftime, the Prairie Fire led 32-21.

Knox expanded their lead in the second half with a 22-11 third quarter and finished the game with an 18-12 fourth quarter to cruise to victory.

Sarina Dacio led the Prairie Fire with 21 points on a 5-of-11 performance from long-range. Catessa Duran added 13 points and Haylee Carpenter poured in 11.

"What a tremendous effort our post players did today on defending a strong post in conference," said head coach Kira Mowen. "They held us down defensively and our guards showed up offensively to finish this team effort. I’m really proud of how well they dialed it in for the second half of play. Our leadership each game is continuing to grow and I couldn't be happier with my captains as well as my seniors."

Knox returns to action as they travel to Lake Forest on February 3.
